Grimsby Central Mosque

Since the 1960s, the Muslim community in and around Grimsby, along with its neighboring villages and towns, has shown a remarkable growth in both numbers and familial connections. Initially, members gathered for prayers in halls and private homes, striving to maintain their religious practices despite the absence of a dedicated place of worship.

In 1988, the community took a significant step forward by establishing the town’s first mosque. As the community continued to flourish, it became evident that a larger, more accommodating venue was essential. This realisation led to the establishment of Grimsby Central Mosque in its present form in 2008.

Grimsby Central Mosque is the largest mosque in Grimsby with a regular congregation of well over 300 Muslims. The Mosque follows the true SUNNAH of the prophet Mohammed peace be upon him. The establishment of the current mosque was made possible through the generous donations and dedicated efforts of the local Muslim community. Over a six-month period, our community worked hard to make changes to the existing building to transform it to a mosque that would serve as a beacon for the community.

Since its founding, Grimsby Central Mosque has developed into a vibrant and spirited institution, extending its role beyond that of a mere place of worship. The mosque is proud to offer a warm, welcoming environment for a diverse and multicultural congregation, representing at least 26 nationalities, all contributing to its inclusive atmosphere.

In addition to the important function of hosting daily prayers, the mosque offers a comprehensive range of services, catering to all the needs and requests from its congregation. These include, but are not limited to, counseling and advice, educational programs for both children and adults, and support/assistance pertaining to marriages, birth/Aqiqah, deaths, funerals and many others.

The mosque is equally committed to building bridges with the wider non-Muslim community. It organises regular educational visits for local schools and public sector groups, welcoming them to explore and better understand the true Islam. Furthermore, the mosque invites individuals of other faiths to engage with its teachings, providing a valuable insight into Islam’s true essence and fundamental values. Annual “visit my mosque” day has also been a regular activity held in the mosque.

In its existence, Grimsby Central Mosque has become a cornerstone of faith and unity, embodying its mission to foster understanding and connections among diverse communities.

The Mosque is registered charity in England under the number 519342
